Lyons Fleas qualify for state with a second straight District 1 Tourney shutout

The Lyons Flea Boys allowed a top of the first run to Effingham County to open up the District 1 Tournament at Ed Smith Complex in Vidalia and since then in 10 straight innings the All Stars have not allowed any other opponent to touch home plate while outscoring their three opponents 45-1, including a 13-0 four inning win over Vidalia which advanced them into the district tourney championship round and also qualifies them for state.

Lyons will play for the District 1 championship at 3:30 p.m. at Ed Smith. Lyons needs just one win to be the champ. A second game will follow if needed.

Against Vidalia, the Lyons defense began the game making six straight outs. A Vidalia batter reached on an error to start the third inning. Lyons faced the minimum in that inning thanks to a double play and the boys finished the game making three defensive plays in the fourth.

On offense Lyons scored five runs in the first inning and eight in the third. M.J. Burton, Riley Kersey and Trevor White all went 3-for-3. Tyson Brantley and Slade McDonald each went 2-for-3 and Parker Stanley, Chandler Smith, Nick Carroll and Brody Randall each had a hit.
