Bulldogs advance to the Elite 8 with a run-rule and a walk-off win at Banks County

Let the liquids fly after George Lucke’s walk-off hit

The Toombs County Bulldogs continued their amazing late season run by winning their ninth and tenth straight games in the second round of the GHSA State Tournament and the two victories over Banks County, in Homer, moved the Dawgs into the Elite 8 in Class 2A. The Bulldogs are the only four seed still standing in the AA tournament.

The two wins couldn’t have been more different. Senior D.R. Meadows pitched the Bulldogs to a 12-2 win in five innings in game one and senior George Lucke singled to right field with the bases loaded and one out, in the second game, to give TCHS an 8-7 win in eight innings.

Junior designated hitter Martin Stephens was an offensive catalyst in both games. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 in the first game with three runs batted in and in the second game, the number nine hitter in the lineup, went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI’s.

Toombs, the number four team from Region 2, with travel to Eastman on Wednesday, May 10 to take on Dodge -County- the number two team from Region 3. Dodge swept Callaway, the number one team from Region 5, in straight games, in Hogansville, 8-2 and 3-2.
