For nearly six innings the Toombs County junior varsity Bulldogs had a shot at avenging a a road loss to Jeff Davis two weeks ago. The Dawgs were tied with the Yellow Jackets at 2-2 after the first inning and they led 3-2 after scoring a third inning run. However, the Yellow Jackets took advantage of a Bulldog error, with two down in the sixth, and they scored five unearned runs in a 7-3 victory in Lyons.
Sophomore Brandon Dennis pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks. Jeff Davis scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning and then Dennis retired four straight before giving up a two-out single in the third. Then the right-hander set down six straight Yellow Jackets prior to a two-out double in the fifth. In the sixth Dennis yielded two singles and the left the mound and went to left field with two outs and the Bulldogs leading 3-2.
Lefty Trey Cloud replaced Dennis and induced a fly ball which was not caught and that opened the door for the five run inning. Cloud pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and two walks and no earned runs.
The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Chandler Lynn singled and scored on a JD error. Brock Harrison, who reached on a fielders choice, scored on a RBI single by Bryce Deloach. In the third inning Lynn led off with a double and scored on an error.
