D.R. Meadows and Lane Adams have been playing on the same baseball teams from mites through juniors at Partin Park and as Bullpups and Bulldogs in school ball. The two seniors stepped up in the first week of Region 2 play and led the Bulldogs to sweep of Bryan County.
In other Friday region action- Benedictine shutout Swainsboro 12-0, Jeff Davis defeated Vidalia 11-0 and Bacon County took care of Metter 5-2. Toombs County, Benedictine, Jeff Davis and Bacon County are all 2-0 in the region.
Meadows competed sweep with one of the most dominant pitching performances of his high school career. He struck out a career-high 13 batters in six innings and only allowed two hits and two walks in a 9-0 home win. Meadows also went 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks in the leadoff position in the lineup. On Tuesday in the Bulldogs 3-2 win at Pembroke Meadows went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
Meadows allowed a double to start the game and then struck out five batters in a row. He retired seven straight after the double and then he walked two straight. A Bulldog error on a contested infield fly rule loaded the bases with one out. D.R. ended the threat by striking out the number three and four hitters.
D.R. retired five straight before he allowed his second and final hit and then he stifled the Redskins setting down six straight batters. He ended his six inning stint with back-to-back strikeouts. Brock Harrison pitched the seventh inning and the sophomore right-hander retired three straight on four pitches on two grounders and a fly out.
Adams drove in four Bulldog runs in the Friday win with a 2-for-3 game with a walk. Lane smacked a three-run hit, with two outs and the bases loaded, on a 3-2 pitch in the second inning and he singled in another run with two outs in the sixth. He also go into a run down allowing Dalton Lynn to score from third base. Adams was 1-for-3 on Tuesday with a double and he was the winning pitcher throwing seven innings allowing eight hits and one earned run. Combined the two buddies threw 13 innings allowing just one earned run with 18 strikeouts and four walks and they went 7-for-11 at the plate.
