After leaving 13 runners on base, including 11 in scoring position in a two-run home loss to Appling County, Toombs County head coach Brian Fitzgerald shook up his batting order for his team’s first Region 2 game at Bryan County. In fact only one Dawg hit in the same position and the end result was a 3-2 win.
Other Region 2 scores- Benedictine 12, Swainsboro 2, Jeff Davis 3, Vidalia 2 and Bacon County 7, Metter 4.
Senior Bryce Harrison had not had an at bat since the third game of the season, but in game eight he was inserted into the lineup as the designated hitter batting seventh and he went 2-for-3 and drove in the first run of the game in the second inning with a single.
Cole Graham at the plate
Sophomore catcher Cole Graham moved from ninth to second in the order and he went 1-for-3. Cole executed TCHS’s first successful sacrifice bunt of the season in the first inning and he singled in a run in the fifth which gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Senior D.R. Meadows had been hitting third and fourth in the lineup. However, Fitzgerald moved him back to the leadoff position. Meadows had excelled at the position earlier in his career posting an on base percentage of well over .500. Against the Redskins he went 2-for-3 with a walk and was on base four times. Meadows scored the Bulldogs third run in the seventh inning. He walked, stole second base and then with two outs he avoided a tag between second and third base and then he scored on a wild pitch.
Lane Adams improved his record to 2-1
Lane Adams pitched his second complete game of the season allowing eight hits and one earned run with five strikeouts and just a seventh inning walk.
