Last March the Toombs County Bulldogs lost a 6-5 nine inning game at Southeast Bulloch. In a rematch, in Lyons, the Bulldogs rallied from an 8-4 deficit in the bottom of the seventh. However, it was the same result-a one-run loss. SEB held on to an 8-7 victory.
Zach Owen singled in two runs as the Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the first and the Bulldogs did the same in the bottom of the frame. The first run scored on an error and the other two on a two-run opposite field double by Brock Harrison. The Bulldogs left Harrison at second in that inning and in the second Kyle Knight led off with a double and he was stranded at that bag.
SEB broke the 3-3 tie by stringing together four straight hits with two down in the fourth. Cole Mincey singled in a run, Bryce Harnage doubled in two and Joe Ham hit a two-bagger that plated a Yellow Jacket.
Brandon Helton led off the fourth with a triple to right and the Dawgs left him there. Toombs scored an unearned run in the fifth to make it 7-4 Jackets. SEB’s Dylan Rooks hit a solo homer, with two down in the eighth, to push the Jacket lead to 8-4.
In the bottom of the seventh Cole Graham lead off and was hit by a pitch. Lane Adams hammered a double to deep right. Martin Stephens drove in a run with a deep sacrifice fly, D.R. Meadows walked and Harrison smashed a double to deep left scoring two to make it a one-run game. Helton walked and on the pitch, which got away, Harrison moved down to third. Helton stole second to put runners on second and third. However, the game ended as reliever Tyler Deloach struck out his second Dawg on a 3-2 pitch.
