TCHS basketball season ends with a pair of close losses

The Toombs County Bulldogs haven’t qualified for the GHSA State Basketball Tournament since February 2012 and the Lady Bulldogs since February 2013. On February 8, 2017 both teams almost punched a ticket to the post season. However, both lost very close games in the quarterfinal round of the Region 2 Tournament at the Toombs County Middle School Gym. Jeff Davis’s Stephanie Rump hit a short shot from right of the lane with 4.2 seconds remaining to give the Lady Yellow Jackets a 40-39 win over the Lady Dawgs.

Senior Jocelyn Walker led Toombs with 17 points, Christine Mobley had 9, senior Joann Gomez and Shakevia Knight 4, senior Dominique Jones 3 and Diamond Logan 2. The Lady Bulldogs end up with a 10-16 record.

A scrappy bunch of Bulldogs hung around with Bacon County the whole game. The Dawgs were missing their top two scorers- D.R. Meadows and Jalen Mobley. The Raiders made a little run late in the game and pulled out a 46-42 win.

Seniors Alex Blount and L.J. Sims both hit double-digits for the Bulldogs. Blount scored a career-high 15 and Sims 10. Karis Harden and Ermias Fisser each scored 5, Tyrese Lewis 3 and Drekari Jones and Jaquail Boyd 2.  The Bulldogs finish the season with a 16-11 record.
