It all came together on December 18, 2012 for the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs. That is the night they last defeated arch rival Vidalia.
The 2012 Toombs County Lady Bulldogs’ 53-44 win over visiting Vidalia was the girls first victory over their arch rival in five seasons. The 2006-07 team, featuring Brittany Knight, Whitney Furr, Amber Cowart, Lashawn Fletcher, Corneshia Corouthers and Samantha Dowd, defeated Vidalia three times. First year TCHS coach Melody Walker’s team broke away in the first quarter with an offensive game plan that pushed the ball up court quickly and they built up a lead that reached 14 points.
Point guard Diamond Boyd drove to the hoop repeatedly and scored 17 points. Deavia Howard tossed in eight of her 15 in the fourth quarter and Shaila Bacon scored two quick buckets at the end of the third quarter and scored seven points. Megan Meadows set the pace of the game on an early possession by whipping a perfect, long bounce pass to Howard who scored an easy bucket. Meadows scored four of her six points in the first quarter. Demetria Jones scored all four of her points in the first quarter and Breanna Walker did the same in the second period.
The 5-4 Lady Bulldogs led 17-10 after the first quarter, 30-22 at half and 45-31 after three periods.
