TCHS basketball avenges loses at Metter with a home sweep of the Lady Tigers and Tigers

Back on December 2 the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs lost at Metter by 26 points and the Bulldogs let a double-digit lead slip away and they fell by 6. In the rematch, in Lyons, the Lady Bulldogs opened up a 10 point lead in the second half and they held on to a 45-42 victory and then the Bulldogs beat Metter 74-67. Each team is 2-3 in Region 2 AA. The Bulldogs are 10-5 overall and the Lady Bulldogs are 6-8.

With Joann Gomez back on the court, after recovering from an injury, the Lady Bulldogs were at full strength and it showed in their defensive effort in the first half. Metter only scored seven points in each of the first two quarters as the Lady Bulldogs built up a 19-14 lead at the break.

With 35.9 seconds remaining in the game Shakevia Knight (10 points) hit two free throws to give TCHS a 42-40 lead. Christine Mobley led Toombs with 13 points, Jocelyn Walker scored 11, Dominique Jones 9 and Gomez 2.

The Tigers won the odd quarters and the Bulldogs took the even ones. Metter led 21-15 after the first quarter as Markevious Bird scored 11 of  his 17. Toombs dominated the second quarter outscoring Metter 25-12. Senior Jalen Mobley (22 points) hit three of his four 3-pointers in that period to help lead TCHS to a 40-33 lead at half.

D.R. Meadows scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half while fellow senior L.J. Sims tossed in 14 of his 18 in the second half. The Bulldogs were outscored 19-12 in the third quarter to tie the game at 52, but they took the final period 22-15. Karis Harden scored 5 points, Tyrese Lewis, Jaquail Boyd and Montrey Williams each had 2 and Ermias Fisser and Alex Blount 1.
