These boys know how to win. In the span of three summers these skilled ballplayers have already won two GRPA State Championships. In 2015, as second year Fleas, they defeated Vidalia in three big match ups to win the Lyons Youth Tournament- the District 1 Tourney and the GRPA State Tournament in Savannah.
As 8 and unders, from Lyons, they were the first LRD team to win a state championship since 1993. Then two years later in the summer of 2017 they finished second in the Lyons Youth Tourney and second in the District 1 Tournament. However, with a state championship on the line this 10 and under team stayed in the winners bracket and they scored six runs in the sixth inning to defeat Glynn County in the championship game.
The 2017 Mites are D.J. Austin, Tucker Braddy, Gage Brantley, Kameron Clark, Cameron Harris, Tray Harris, Austin Humphrey, Cameron Ledford, Kipp Mosley, Jesus Quintero, Ryder Sears, T.J. Stanley and Britton Tabor.
Austin, Brantley, Clark, the two Harris’s, Humphrey, Ledford, Mosley, Quintero, Stanley and Tabor all won a second state championship.
Lyons 12, Mitchell County 6- Lyons didn’t play it’s best game against the Southwest Georgia team. Sloppy defensive play allowed Mitchell to score six unearned runs. However, Lyons scored in double-digits for the second time in the tourney and the best swing of the game was by shortstop Jesus Quintero, who homered over the center field fence.
Lyons 11, Liberty County 3- Lyons played a cleaner game defensively in their second match up of the day. Quintero hit another home run, way over the left center field fence, and Kipp Mosley hit his first home run of the state tourney over the left field fence.
