17 football Bulldogs honored by Region 2 AA

Seventeen Toombs County Bulldogs were honored by Region 2 AA as either first team, second team or honorable mention All-Region.

First team from TCHS:

Willie Campbell (#51) pulls and opens a hole for Keshawn Morgan

Offensive lineman Willie Campbell- The 6-1, 230 pound junior, was a key member of the Toombs County offensive line which made it possible for the Bulldogs to rush for 3,156 yards and 33 touchdowns. TCHS averaged 287 rushing yards per game and 6.9 yards per carry. Willie was the Bulldogs’ best pulling offensive lineman.

Running back Keshawn Morgan- The 6 foot, 205 pound junior had a breakout season running the football for the Dawgs. He rushed for 1697 yards and 21 touchdowns averaging 154.3 yards per game and 8.3 per carry. He scored at least a touchdown in 10 of the 11 Bulldog games including an amazing night, in McRae when he scored six times and piled up 372 rushing yards. He also scored four touchdowns against East Laurens and three on Jeff Davis.

Fullback D.J. Matthews- The 5-11, 152 pound junior was a fierce blocker and an effective receiver. He caught six passes at Swainsboro and he scored touchdowns on receptions against Metter and Vidalia. He caught 12 passes for 154 yards and averaged 12.8 per snag. Matthews even made a one-handed catch in an early season game in the Pit.

Ervin Mincey gets ready to make a play on defense

Defensive lineman Ervin Mincey- The 6-1, 232 pound junior was a force on the Bulldog line. He had 45 total tackles including 34 solo’s. He had six tackles in each of the final two games at Swainsboro and Screven County and five in back-to-back games versus Bryan County and Bacon County. Ervin also had five sacks- three at Metter and one each against Telfiar County and Benedictine.

Jimmy Edwards (#27) tackles a Jeff Davis Yellow Jacket

Linebacker Jimmy Edwards- The 5-10, 190 pound senior led the Bulldogs in tackles with 110- 67 solo tackles and 43 assists plus 8 tackles for a loss. Jimmy was in on 16 tackles against both Twiggs County and Swainsboro, 13 against Benedictine, 12 versus Screven County and 10 in the Pit against Vidalia. Jimmy averaged 10 tackles per game and he also played on offense as a blocking back. He caught a pass for 25  yards against GHSA AA State Champ Benedictine.

Lane Adams punts against Benedictine

Punter Lane Adams- The 6-1, 170 pound senior joined the Bulldog football team for the 2016 season. He had never played middle or high school football. Lane started off the season as the punter and then became a receiver and then a defensive back. Adams averaged a net of 39 yards per punt and had a long boot of 48 yards. He also was very effective at dropping punts inside the 20 and 10 yard lines.

Cody Fuller (#66 on left) takes care of his Vidalia Indian

Offensive lineman Cody Fuller- The 6-2, 269 junior was a powerful blocker for the Bulldog. He blocked until the whistle no matter how downfield he was. Probably one of the team leaders in pancake blocks.

Dalton McBride runs the ball in the Pit

Quarterback Dalton McBride- The 6-0, 165 pound junior completed 43 passes for 665 yards and 8 touchdowns and he ran the ball 78 times for 466 yards and five touchdowns. Dalton threw two touchdown passes against Twiggs County and he passed the ball for 137 yards against Benedictine and 128 at Swainsboro. He threw one TD pass in each of those games. McBride ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns against Bryan County. He also scored two touchdowns, in the Pit, versus Jeff Davis and one at Bacon County.

Rig Tinoco was 7-for-7 on PAT’s against Jeff Davis

 Placekicker Rigoberto “Rig” Tinoco- The junior was quite a weapon in 2016. He could kick the ball into the end zone on kickoffs and boot extra points and field goals with great percision. He kicked 39-of-42 on PAT’s including 7-f0r-7 against both Telfair County and Jeff Davis. He ended the season with a career-long 47-yard field goal at Screven County. He also kicked field goals against East Laurens, Twiggs County, Bacon County and Metter.

Jaquail Boyd opened TCHS’s shutout of Jeff Davis with a TFL

Defensive lineman Jaquail Boyd- The 6-1, 178 pound junior stepped it up big time on defense with 54 total tackles- 33 solo’s and 21 assist. He had seven tackles for a loss including three sacks- two at Metter and one at home against Jeff Davis. Boyd also caught nine passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Honarable mention from TCHS:

Cameron Panick (#63) and Jason Lowe (#77) open a Bulldog hole against Jeff Davis

Offensive lineman Cameron Panick- The senior became a fulltime starter in his final high school season. As the Bulldog center he helped open up big holes for the backs right up the middle and he was a very accurate long snapper for place kicker Rig Tinoco.

Jeidon Sistrunk (#28) runs the ball against the Vidalia Indians

Running back Jeidon Sistrunk- The 5-7, 193 pound junior pounded out 961 rushing yards, averaging 87.4 yards per game and 6.0 per carry. Jeidon scored six touchdowns including two at Metter. His best rushing games were on the road- 138 yards at Bacon and 136 at Metter.

Wide receiver Tivean Ashley- The 5-10, 170 pound senior made some big catches in his first season as a starter. He caught three balls against Twiggs County including two for touchdowns and he also caught a pass for six points against state champ Benedictine. Ashley had five total catches for 155 yards.

Jonathan Quintero (#65) makes a tackle

Defensive lineman Jonathan Quintero- The 6-1, 225 pound junior was an outstanding two-way lineman. On defense he made 12 solo tackles and three assists.

Defensive lineman Dakota Braddock- The 6-1, 190 pound junior took advantage of his playing time made nine solo tackles with nine assists. He had six tackles at Swainsboro and four against Bryan County and Benedictine.

Linebacker Will Fuller- The 5-10, 175 pound junior was the Dawgs’ second leading tackler with 94 total including 52 primary stops. He had 13 total against Swainsboro and 11 versus Twiggs and Benedictine. Fuller average 8.5 tackles per game.

Luke Anderson (#15) makes a tackle against Jeff Davis

Defensive back Luke Anderson- The 5-9, 162 pound senior was an active tackler from the secondary with 22 solo stops and nine assists. He even had two sacks against East Laurens and Bacon County. Luke had six tackles in those two games and five at Metter.
