Coach Laberton Sims said after the Toombs County Bulldogs opened up their season holding West Laurens to 42 points that after game 10, 11 or 12 the Bulldogs would really be hitting their stride on defense. In only game two of the season, against East Laurens in the Highway 280 Tip Off Tournament at Vidalia, the Bulldogs limited the Falcons to single digits in all four quarters in a 65-25 win. East Laurens scored six points in the first quarter, four in the second, nine in the third and six in a six minute fourth quarter as the mercy rule was applied.
In two regular season games and one scrimmage Toombs is yielding an average of 35 points per game.
On offense the Bulldogs turned a two-point game, at 8-6, in to a rout by going on a 25-4 run for the rest of the opening half. TCHS led 16-6 after the opening quarter and 33-10 at half. Toombs scored 32 more points in the second half with a 19 point third quarter (52-19 Dawgs) and a 13 point fourth.
The five Bulldog starters scored 51 points with no player scoring less than nine points or more than 11. D.R. Meadows and Jalen Mobley each scored 11 points. Meadows sank three 3-pointers and Mobley had two. Tyrese Lewis nailed two 3-balls and scored 10. The Bulldogs post players each were perfect at the free throw line. L.J. Sims was 6-for-6 at the stripe and scored 10 points and Alex Blount went 3-for-3 and scored 9 points and his power move netted a three point play and gave the Bulldogs a 55-19 lead.
Karis Harden scored 7 points, Jaquail Boyd 2 and Tivean Ashley and Drekari Jones 1 each.
