Bacon 2 edges TCMS 6th grade by a penetration point in overtime


The championship game of the 6th grade Midget League was decided in overtime, by penetration, in Lyons. Bacon 2 gained more yards and defeated Toombs County Middle School 7-6. The Bullpups ended their season with a 4-2-1 record . They beat Vidalia and Jeff Davis twice and lost to Bacon 2 twice including 12-0 in the regular season in Lyons. The Bullpups opened their season with a 16-16 tie against Bacon 1.

Bacon 2’s offense is built around a powerful quarterback, who broke a big run and scored a touchdown with 5:16 to play in the first quarter. The Bullpups stoped Bacon 2 on the extra point conversion giving the visitors a 6-0 lead.

Toombs tied the game on a fourth down play with 1:49 to play in the third quarter. Quarterback Gavin Hall threw a pass to Malek Day and the wide receiver made two Bacon defenders miss, than he broke an arm tackle and went across the field and did a somersault in to the end zone. Hall and Day teamed up on seven completions. The TCMS conversion failed and it was a 6-6 game.

Both teams had a touchdown called back by a penalty in the fourth quarter. Silas LaGrant’s TCMS TD run was called back because of an offsides penalty and the Bacon QB had a long TD run brought back due to a block in the back.

In overtime each team got the ball at the 20. TCMS went first and didn’t score. Bacon 2 picked up more yards on it’s possession and won the game on penetration.
