The Toombs County High School volleyball team defeated Putnam County 25-18, 25-11 and 25-21 in the quarterfinal round of the Area 2 Tournament. The win sends the Net Dawgs to the semifinal round of the area and also qualified them for their fifth straight trip to the GHSA AA State Tournament. Since there are only four AA areas the Net Dawgs will enter the tourney in round of 16- the Sweet 16.
Putnam County excelled on defense, while TCHS was the more aggressive offensive team. Breanne Stanley had many kills at the net and Janie Jernigan had a kill on the final point to end the match played at the Toombs County Gym. The tourney was originally scheduled to be played last Saturday in Augusta. Hurricane Matthew forced a change in the tourney which will end on Saturday in Augusta.
17-9 Toombs County still has a chance to earn a home game in the state tourney if the Net Dawgs win their semifinal match.
