For the second time in three days the Toombs County Middle School softball team defeated ECI. However, neither win was similar. On Tuesday, in Lyons, the Lady Bullpups came from a run down by scoring six runs in the fifth in a 9-4 win. On Thursday, in Twin City, TCMS built up a 12-3 lead in the first three innings and then held on to a 12-11 victory. Toombs is 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the subregion and the girls have won four in a row since they suffered their only loss of the season on August 22, at home, to Glennville by a 4-1 score.
The Lady Bullpups built up their big lead with some big hits. Rilyn Fitzgerald, Ashtyn Braddy and Zihyia Griffin each smashed a triple. Harley Hester had multiple hits and drove in a pair of runs with a single, K.K. Mobley laid down a fine bunt and reached first base and Aspen Johnson had a single.
Braddy pitched another complete game. Ashtyn got out of a tough situation in the bottom of the final inning. ECI loaded the bases with two outs and the middle of the batting order was up. An inside pitch was called. Ashtyn jammed the batter and induced a liner back to the circle which she caught to end the game. Jesslyn Smith helped out defensively catching a deep fly call in left.
