Lyons Flea Girls get ready for their first state tourney

Twelve members of the Lyons Flea Girls softball team are practicing, in the heat, getting ready for their first trip to the GRPA State Tournament. Lyons finished second in the District 1 Tournament in Vidalia losing to Dublin in the championship round.

Lyons will open the state tourney, being played at the Sand Hill Complex in Effingham County, on Thursday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m. The girls first round match up will be against district champion Crisp County. Crisp beat Moultrie 12-4 , Lee County 15-9 and Moultrie 6-2 to finish first. Watch a slideshow


The Lyons Fleas work very hard on their defense. The infield takes a lot of grounders from coach Jas Snead, who was a fine athlete at Treutlen. At the same time the outfielders are catching fly balls and fielding balls that are hit on the ground.
