The Lyons Midget Girls formula for winning three straight games to wrap up the District 1 championship in Swainsboro was to rally in their final at bat. On Saturday Lyons scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to nip Vidalia and then later in the day they overcame a 4-0 deficit with a 10-run sixth. On Tuesday, in the championship match up with Swainsboro, Lyons trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the sixth. The girls took care of that situation by scoring three in a 4-2 victory which sends them to the GRPA State Tournament as the district’s number one team.

The Run Producers

Rileigh Robinson, who singled in the game-winning run against Vidalia, tied this game with a two-out infield hit which scored Salter.

Ellie Graham, the number two hitter in the Lyons lineup, stepped to the plate and she hit the ball on the ground past the pitcher and then through the left side of the infield to bring home Holland and Mobley.

Swainsboro opened the game scoring a run in the top of the first on a double and a grounder. Swainsboro loaded the bases in the third inning and scored a second run to make it 2-0. Graham caught a liner and turned it into a double play with a throw to first base to keep Swainsboro from expanding the lead.
Lyons left runners on second and third base in the fourth and finally broke through and scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. Mobley reached on an infield hit. She stole second, moved to third on a grounder and a Robinson hit to make it 2-1 Swainsboro.
