James Ethredge continues to pitch well for the Chillicothe Mudcats

Through eight appearances for the Chillicothe Mudcats in the M.I.N.K. League former Toombs County Bulldog pitcher James Ethredge continues to post stellar numbers. James, who is working out the Mudcat Bullpen, is 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA. On June 21 had his longest stint. He pitched three scoreless innings allowing only one base hit.

James entered the game in the fifth inning and faced four batters. He induced a fly ball to left and a grounder to the right side in which he took the throw from the first baseman. The only hit allowed was on a broken bat blooper to shallow left field. James stranded that runner at first with another grounder to the right side of the infield handled by the first baseman.

In the sixth set the Clarinda A’s down three up, three down with a swinging strikeout, a grounder to short and bouncing ball back to the mound which he handled easily.

James started off the seventh with a called strike three on a left-handed batter and then another lefty hit a ball deep to right which was caught by the right fielder, who collided with the wall. Ethredge retired his seventh straight Clarinda batter with a grounder to second.

In the fifth he got the first batter on a fly ball to shallow left field. The second batter reached on a 3-2 single and the he retired the third hitter on a first pitch fly ball to right and he ended the inning with six pitch grounder to second base.

In the sixth James struck out the lead off hitter swinging, the second batter singled to center on an 0-2 pitch, the third one looked at strike three, the fourth hit a 2-1 pitch that took a high hop over the first baseman’s glove and he ended the frame, leaving runners on first and second with a ground out to short.

Ethredge opened the seventh inning striking out the first two batters swinging and looking. He hit a batter and gave up a single to put runners on first and third. It looked like the Mudcats were going to get out of the inning when James induced a grounder down the first base line. However, the first baseman missed the tag on the base runner allowing an unearned run to score. James closed the inning by throwing three straight strikes for his fifth strikeout of the outing.

James has now pitched 7 1/3 straight innings without allowing an earned run. He has allowed six hits and struck out nine and walked two during this stretch.
