Nick Curtis played in the Georgia Dugout Club’s Senior All State Games at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrencville.
Nick was on the Southeast Georgia Team and he was the winning pitcher in his team’s only victory of the weekend. SE GA went 1-2.
Curtis entered a 3-3 game in the fifth inning and he threw two scoreless frames. Southeast scored a pair of runs while he was on the mound and won the game 5-3.
In his senior season with the Toombs County Nick pitched the Bulldogs to wins against Islands, Vidalia and Brantley County.
He threw a seven inning, four hit shutout at Islands.
And at home he pitched seven innings against Vidalia and allowed only five hits and one earned run and he struck out a career high 11 batters.
In a home victory over Brantley County he threw seven innings and allowed seven hits and two earned runs.
Curtis also lost some tough decisions. None tougher than an eight inning 4-3 home loss to Pierce County.
Nick threw a complete game allowing the Bears only seven hits and three earned runs and he struck out eight Bears and only walked one.
Nick also pitched a complete game at Dodge County and was on the losing end of a 3-1 decision. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs with seven K’s and no walks.
He took a no decision in a Bulldog home extra inning win over Dodge. Nick threw six innings and allowed four hit and one earned run with six strikeouts and one walk.
In his senior season Nick struck out 50 batters and walked only 14. In a stretch of 23 2/3 innings Curtis walked only one batter- a third inning walk against Pierce County. Nick pitched 18 1/3 consecutive innings without issuing a walk late in the season. He went 3-5 with a 4.23 ERA.
Nick played third base in his final Toombs County High School game.
At the Toombs County High School Baseball Banquet Nick was named the Most Improved Player and he was chosen as First Team All Region 1 AAA.
