The Mite Girls (9 and 10 years old) and the Midget Boys (11-12) Divisions in the Lyons Youth Tournament opened on Friday with the Lyons Mites pulling out a 9-6 win over Glennville while the Lyons Midgets lost to Long County 13-2.

The Mites trailed 4-3 after the top of the third. However, that would be the last time they would be behind on the Field 4 scoreboard. Lyons scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 lead and then two more in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-4.

Lyons will play Long County on Saturday at noon. Long edged Appling County 15-12. Vidalia whipped Twin City 19-4 and Jeff Davis took care of Swainsboro 11-7. Vidalia and Jeff Davis will also play at noon and the two winners will play at 3 p.m.

The big highlight in the Lyons Midget Boys loss was a solo home run by Bryce Davis over the center field fence at Little Fenway. Long County hit two homers over the fence.

In other games Bacon County outscored Wayne County 14-10, Appling County smacked Evans County 15-3 and Metter beat Vidalia 6-1. Lyons and Vidalia will play at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Little Fenway.
