Gordy’s pitching, Miller’s and Dennis’s swings and Lynn’s diving catch lead the Lyons Junior Boys to a win


The Lyons Junior Boys opened up the 54th Lyons Youth Tournament with an 11-2 win over Long County. Alex Gordy pitched all five innings yielding five hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts and only two walks. He also picked off two base runners at second. Gordy pitched scoreless baseball after the first and retired five batters in a row in the first and second innings. Listen to archived Y-101 Play-By-Play


On offense first baseman and cleanup hitter Chase Miller drove in three runs with a two-run single in a five-run third and RBI base hit in a three-run fourth. Brandon Dennis also belted a pair of singles including a two-run shot in the fourth. Trey Cloud singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

The best defensive play of the game was made by Lyons center fielder Chandler Lynn who made a spectacular diving catch in the fourth with two runners on base.

In other Junior Boys action- Swainsboro beat Montgomery County 12-4, Appling County no-hit Vidalia 15-0 and Telfair nipped Wayne County 2-1.
