Bullpups repeat as Swamp Dual Champs


The Toombs County Middle School wrestling team went a perfect 5-0 this weekend to win back to back Ware County Swamp Dual titles.

The Bullpups started off the day by defeating Brantley County Middle School 87-9. Next up the Pups faced a well-rounded Pierce County team and won by a score of 83-65 in a hard fought match. The Bullpups finished up pool competition by defeated Bacon County Middle 104-6 and Waycross Middle 76-24. This earned the team a spot in the championship match against Pierce County who upset Ware County Middle School in the semifinal.

The Bullpups were victorious once again taking the dual 72-57. Standout individual performances were: Alex Gordy 5-0, Matt Lanier 5-0, Justin Dees 4-0, Jaxon Sistrunk 5-0, Greg Pope 3-0, Jacob Edwards 5-0, Keyjuan Sanchez 4-0, Troy Curl and Jeidon Clarke 5-0. An excited Coach Nick Hayes had this to say about his team “I was very proud of our guys this weekend. Everyone showed up and wrestled hard top to bottom. This has traditionally been a very tough tournament and I’m glad that the guys showed up and took home the title for the second year in a row. That’s a testament to their hard work and dedication to the program.”

On Friday, December 11, the Bullpups will play host to the Christmas Duals at the TCMS Gym. There will be ten teams wrestling on four mats. Weigh ins begin at 2 p.m. and the competition will follow.
