The Toombs County High School basketball teams opened the 2015-16 season in the brand new TCHS Gym. Joann Gomez scored the first Lady Bulldog bucket, Keshawn Morgan scored the first Bulldog point, D.R. Meadows made the first TCHS two-pointer, Andre Clarke drilled the first Dawg 3-ball and the Lady Bulldogs were the first Toombs team to record a victory- 59-51 over Montgomery County. The Bulldogs lost to the Eagles 80-73.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 12-2 in the opening quarter and then they turned on their defense and started making shots. The score was 13-all after a quarter and then the Lady Bulldogs started pulling away. They led 26-23 at half and 46-39 after three quarters. TCHS opened up a double-digit lead in the fourth period. Shakevia Knight scored 13 of her career-high 17 points in the second half. Dominique Jones chipped in 10 points, Gomez, Christine Mobley and Jocelyn Walker each had nine and Demetria Jones had five. The Bulldogs opened up an 8-0 lead and they had a 12-5 lead after a quarter. However, the Bulldogs began to tire, just like they did in their scrimmage lost at Long County. Montgomery County led 32-26 at half and 51-47 after three quarters. The Eagles scored 29 points in the fourth quarter.
Meadows led TCHS with a career-high 27 points. D.R. couldn’t get his 3-point shot to fall so the junior point guard took the ball to the hoop and made 11 buckets and 5-of-7 at the free throw line. Jalen Mobley didn’t scored a single point in the first half, but he tossed in 21 in the second half. The junior made two 3-pointers and was 9-of-11 at the line. Clark scored nine points, Alex Bolunt six, Keshawn Morgan five, Gonza Blount three and Tyrese Lewis two. The Bulldogs were 24-of-36 at the free throw line. Watch a slideshow
