Southeast Bulloch freshman running back Slade Burgin is listed at 5-7 175 pounds on the Yellow Jackets roster. But, number 35 played a whole lot bigger than that. He opened the game, offensively for SEB, with an 80-yard touchdown run and when he wasn’t carrying the load for the Jackets in their smash mouth approach to football he was also scoring on a pair of six-yard runs leading SEB to a 42-21 win in Booster Stadium.
The Bulldogs scored on a 25-yard run by quarterback Dalton McBride which with a Cole Williamson extra point cut the Jacket lead to 14-7 with 29 seconds left in the first quarter. Toombs was on the way toward tying the game at the end of the half when a drive ended at the SEB 20 on a fumble.
SEB scored 28 points in the third quarter to take a 42-14 lead. The Bulldogs’ score in that quarter was on an 82-yard kickoff return by Mark Johnson. In the fourth quarter Luke Anderson caught a screen pass from Ashlee Ashley and ran 22-yards for his second career B-Team TD.
Former Toombs County coach Pat Collins was back in the Pit watching the game. Collins is the head coach at SEB and after the game he confirmed that he is the one who nicknamed Booster Stadium the “Pit”. Listen to the story
