In a 2-8 2014 season the Toombs County Bulldogs yielded 34 points per game. In the upcoming 2015 season the Dawgs will be trying to chop that number down significantly. TCHS should have more quality depth on the defensive line and at linebacker and will field a secondary with more experience than last season. Slideshow
Landon Cowart, the Dawgs leading tackler in 2013, has returned after a season at Robert Toombs beefing up a linebacker core which includes Bronza Jones and Jordan Usher. Alex Ashley, who finished 2014 strong with a big game at Portal, will be playing strong safety. He will be joined in the secondary by Nathan Belch and Andre Clark.
Last season the Toombs County Bulldogs wound up starting a very young offensive line which featured as many as three freshmen. Those young guys have been working in the weight room during the off season and now as the first day in pads gets closer they have the look of an improved unit.
On Monday the Toombs County Bulldogs began a week of mandatory GHSA conditioning prior to starting preseason practice on August 3.
The Dawgs have had a busy summer with weight lifting on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday’s. 7-on-7 in the Pit on Tuesdays and more 7-on-7 on the road in Henry County at Jones County.
The Bulldogs won the big trophy at Jones County by beating Mary Persons in the championship game. TCHS also defeated Cairo an Baldwin. Nathan Belch led the defense with a total of six interceptions. Quarterback Dalton McBride completed numerous passes to Jordan Usher.
